Job DescriptionPurpose of Position:
Coordinate and manage the physical execution of grain, soy and fats procurement activities for Farms feed mills as instructed by Vice President of Commodities, including all logistical planning. Oversee, coordinate and manage all aspects of Grain and Soy Merchandizing Group, including outside merchandising, outside brokers, customers, suppliers, personnel, and business unit profitability.
Essential Job Functions:
Coordinate and manage the physical execution of grain and soy procurement activities for Foster Farms feed mills.
Manage trading position and daily activities of merchants for internal poultry needs and for external sales to livestock customers.
Oversee flow of feed to our Feedmill and Commodities facilities
Manage Farm’s daily procurement activity by Merchants, under general instruction of the Vice President, with individual responsibility as to execution. Spot procurement is under personal discretion, where as forward contracting is under discretion of the Vice President.
Total responsibility to manage commodity trading positions and daily activities of Merchants, within the position limits and code of conduct established by Corporate.
Total responsibility to manage rail freight movement.
Lead and coordinate between milling, nutrition and commodities the needs, opportunities and issues.
Maintain continuous positioning and accurate record keeping to ensure positioning internally meets objectives.
Total responsibility to manage fats, liquid feed and urea purchases and marketing.
Risk Management of positions and position limits and daily contracting.
Additional Functions:
Analyze market information.
Maximize profitability, control expenses.
Manage personnel, (activities, education and reviews.)
Manage risk of trading position.
Budgeting and planning along with periodic updated forecasting
Assist in reporting as requested for weekly, biweekly, period, quarter and year end.
QualificationsRequirements:
Degree in Ag Business, Business Administration or related field, MBA strongly preferred
Fifteen years’ experience in merchandising particularly Grain, Soy and liquid feeds.
Comprehensive knowledge of futures and options markets.
Understanding of trading positions and strategy development
Technical and fundamental knowledge of commodity markets
In depth knowledge of transportation markets and their rate structures.
Strong negotiating, sales and people skills.
Ability to work under pressure in volatile markets.
Strong analytical skills to asses and act in fast moving markets.
