Job Description

Purpose of the Position:

Provide strategic leadership, direction, guidance and integration of Quality Assurance concepts across all business sectors of Foster Farms to include: Sales, Marketing, R&D, Manufacturing, Sourcing and Customer/Consumer Affairs. Serve as key contact point for internal/external business units for general QA information requirements. Lead a team focused on continuous improvement, process controls, performance metrics, customer complaint resolution, and manage the voice of the customer feedback. Develop and implement product specification and quality control programs that guarantee delivery of consistent, high quality products. Establish quality control monitoring programs and training to manufacturing employees for delivering consistent outcomes within established standards for customer specifications and production goals. Collect, verify and statistically analyze monitoring data to ensure execution of programs at time of manufacture and evaluate trends related to defect rates. When necessary, collaborate with all relevant parties on options for balancing defect rate with improvement opportunities.

Essential Functions:

Responsible for protecting the company brands by leading the development, implementation, and management of processes and systems that guarantee delivery of consistent, high quality product.

Responsible for assuring customer specifications are met by ensuring internal specifications are accurate and QC audit criteria is defined to meet expectations.

Develop company-wide benchmarks and corresponding metrics to measure quality standards and effectiveness of programs.

Ensure that quality systems audit program is in place and meets expected results for the production facilities, contract manufacturers, suppliers and warehouses or distribution centers specific to the market.

Works with Plant Operations leadership team to establish and align quality objectives with production procedures to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.

Identifies quality issues and effectively communicates to senior management time sensitive findings and information that could impact Foster Farms or its customers.

Work with Food Safety/Regulatory Directors to implement and assess quality tracking systems at the plant level. Provide trending data and reporting of complaints and other metrics to assess product performance

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Science/Engineering or related field and with Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in food science required

Demonstrated knowledge of (and/or certifications in) Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma.

Experience developing quality strategy throughout the supply chain process with exceptional results.

5+ years’ experience of establishing audit processes in a food manufacturing environment

Substantial experience in Quality Assurance in Production environment -15 years in total, with 10 years in progressive management or leadership roles is required.

Ability to interact effectively at all levels within the organization, influence key stakeholders, and constructively manage opposition

Ability to develop quality systems, including ability to write policies and SOP’s as well as mentor others in writing policies and SOPs.

Proven ability to operate successfully in a growing organization, including demonstrated ability to coordinate efforts.

Physical Requirements:

Must have ability to obtain valid CA Driver’s and have reliable transportation.

Must be able to travel 25% of the time, overnight travel is required.
